Concha Home Furnishings
The Pitch -
Concha uses patterns inspired by the lioconcha genus originating from the countries and islands in the indo-west Pacific.
Featuring bilateral symmetry and structural forms that resemble the movement of saltwater riverbeds and oceanic shores. These ideas inform a truthfully unique style of humble home furnishings that intertwine natural occurence and everyday living.
.
The brief for this project was simple: use a rare phenomenom or occurence to influence a brand, identity or event. I came across the Lioconcha mollusc genus during research into natural world rarities. The varying species in this genus are most notably unique to Hawaii, The Philippines and parts of Austrailia and it became an effortless decision to entwine these natural patterns with a way of everyday life; home furnishings.
The patterns were an amalgamation of a variety of the Lioconcha species, leading to three distinct designs being produced. Since identity was key to the brief, I focused on the conceptual side of the idea, looking at the values, vision and mission of the brand. The process involved a refined grammatical side to presenting the brand, detailing how key morals associated with the brand inform the brand guidelines.
As most of the project was centered around the vision of Concha Home Furnishings, I did touch upon the logistical side of the brand in the guidelines, involving the exclusive sale of products online and at exclusive, higher-end furnishing retailers. Furthermore, the brand would be advertised through collaboration with public spaces in art galleries and nature/conservation centres, maintaining the brand’s inspired routes in natural occurence.
